We are featuring something a bit different in our ‘Fish of the Month’ promotion in November. We are casting a spotlight on our superb frozen fish pie mix.

This is a mix of three different fish – Cod, Dyed Cod and Salmon and makes as superb luxury fish pie like the recipe that we are featuring this month. This dish would grace the table of a mid week kitchen supper as well as not being out of place for a more sophisticated dinner party and it is so easy to prepare and cook.

Our Cod is caught in the Atlantic and the Salmon is farmed in Norway. As well as fantastic fish pie this fish is ideal for putting in a Paella together with some of our superb range of peeled and shell-on prawns. Our fish pie mix is sold in 1kg bags at £9.00.

Wine Pairing

Whether fish pie is topped with mashed potato or pastry, smooth dry white wines work best to complement the rich, creamy flavours in the pie. You cannot go wrong with unoaked or lightly oaked Chardonnay or a minerally style Chenin Blanc.

Leeuwenkuil translates as lion's den and is named after the cape lions that used to roam the lands. Today it is quality focused winery owned and run by the Dreyer family. This is an elegant and refined wine with a racy acidity that adds freshness to the apple and tropical fruit flavours and the mineral finish.

Try this Arnaud de Lassalle Pouilly Fumé on offer from Waitrose at £15.99 per bottle.

A crisp, mineral Pouilly Fumé made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc - pure, zesty and refreshing. From vineyards overlooking the upper Loire River, this wine is matured on the lees for five months prior to release to add a touch of creamy richness to the texture.

Tasting note - Delicate aromas of freshly cut grass and blackcurrant leaf follow through to a crisp, dry and fresh palate, with green apple and gooseberry notes. Long mineral finish.

This is a dry, elegant wine, which makes a great partner to our luxury fish pie recipe.
